From my experience, every character is good on their default type. Your type decides which Techs you'll learn, but they're all good, so it doesn't matter that much. If you have a gem majority of a certain type, your character will become that type. Basically, each gem can be used to set a bonus ability, and that ability will be S or T type. (Idk the controls for Steam, but on PS3, you hold L and press a direction to select a command) For example, if your allies are low on health, you could try Guard command.Īlso, Ex Gems and Types don't matter all that much. You could also try commanding your allies. (press down direction while guarding) It also works to just dodge some of them by running left or right, unless it's a homing attack like Fireball. Magic attacks can't be guarded, unless you use Gaurdian. You don't take nearly as much damage while guarding, and then you can usually counter attack the enemy. If you're dying a lot in battle, you could try guarding attacks more. It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. So if someone can break it down simply or share what their strategy was their first playthrough, that would be awesome. I don't want to sit down for hours researching this game, I just want to have fun. I've given everyone a EX-Gem that gives a bonus that suits their class (like INT boost to Genis), that's as far as I can comfortably go without extensive research. Kratos Lvl 13, Secondary Attack + Backup Heal, S-TypeĬolette Lvl 12, Support?, Barely used, swtiched out for Kratos ASAP, so she's barely developed, Leans slightly towards S-Type Lloyd Lvl 13, Main character, not sure if I should switch, S-Type I found guides for some of the topics, but they answer mid to end game questions, and I'm in Palmacosta looking for a book that someone stole. Sometimes I do ok, but I usually just spend way too much time researching and not enough time playing (like now, I get the feeling I should avoid the game until I figure out, what EX types do I want, where do i put the gem I have, and how should I set up my team)

The Beach event in Altamira: Lloyd will always get the title, then you can pick another character for the title, and then the 2 characters with the highest affection will also get a title.I'm not usually the best when building my character or doing team setup. Lloyd will always get the title, then you can pick 3 characters at the party. The Dance Party will require saving the princess with Zelos, it's a side quest available after completing the Latheon Gorge (fairly late in the game). Tracking your affection is a bit annoying and requires you to plan your playthrough based on which characters you want in your top 3, especially for Kratos. The Flanoir Doctor event will allow you to pick between the 3 characters with the highest affection (Kratos included). You won't be able to collect every titles in a single playthrough (at least 5 are necessary based on the Flanoir Event).Īlso, some titles will only be available after the Flanoir Doctor event (part of the story, quite late): the beach event titles/costumes, the dance party and at least 1 other title for each character depending on your character choice in Flanoir.

Open to corrections/additions if necessary, don't hesitate. This is a list of the titles that each character may acquire by default or by satisfying certain criteria throughout the game.īased on: but including PS2/PS3/PC titles (those will be at the bottom of each table), and I'll try to add the timeframe to obtain it as clearly as possible and hopefully not impede too much on readability. Titles marked with an asterisk(*) indicate that it changes the characters costume. Changing titles does not retroactively increase or decrease stats, however, it will only affect future levels. For instance, Lloyd's Drifting Swordsman title will cause a +1 HP (1/10 chance for extra HP), +2 STR (2/10 chance of extra STR), +2 DEF (2/10 chance of extra DEF) chance of increase in stats on top of the standard increase upon level. Once the character levels up, the title currently on him or her will have a chance (x/10) to boost certain stats on top of the standard increase. When placing a title on a character, it has no immediate effect. Titles are used in Tales of Symphonia to modify the characters stats as they level up.
